Katie Guffin is a native of Missoula, Montana. She has a Bachelor of Arts from Colorado College with a major in biology and a minor in environmental issues. After hiking a section of the Pacific Crest Trail in California, she taught science and outdoor environmental education in California, Colorado, and Montana.
Katie earned her law degree from the University of Montana School of Law, along with a certificate in Environmental and Natural Resource Law. As a law student, Katie was an editor for the Public Land and Resources Law Review, member of the Negotiation Competition Team, president of the Environmental Law Group, class representative for the Student Bar Association, and teaching assistant and mentor to incoming students. Katie interned at Christensen, Moore, Cockrell, Cummings & Axelberg, P.C.; the Montana Attorney General’s Office; and the United States Attorney’s Office. She was awarded the International Academy of Trial Lawyers Student Advocacy Award. Katie then clerked for the Honorable Patricia O’Brien Cotter of the Montana Supreme Court, worked on a gubernatorial campaign, and worked for Montana Trout Unlimited. She also completed a Master of Science degree from the University of Montana. She serves on the board of the Montana Natural History Center and loves Montana’s wild, open, and accessible places.
Katie is admitted to practice in Montana State and Federal Courts, the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Court, and the Blackfeet Tribal Court. She is a member of the State Bar of Montana, the Western Montana Bar Association, the Montana Defense Trial Lawyers Association, the Council on Litigation Management, and the Defense Research Institute.
